New Dementia Support Center - Abundant Life Reformed Church
Abundant Life Reformed Church, in conjunction with the Greater NJ Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, is opening a support center for those providing care to people living with dementia. The need is extensive. Our goal is to serve as a center for resources and empathetic friendship for the caregiver– in other words, a place you can get the information you need as well as an support from understanding shoulder to cry on. Importantly, we have designed things so that the caregiver can bring their loved with them. Too often, many never get the help they need because they can’t leave that loved one alone. We will have volunteers that can engage the dementia suffer in whatever activity they are comfortable with: coloring, listening to music, watching an old time movie, being read to, even playing the piano.
To kick things off, we are having an open house “round table” on December 9 from 5-7pm and I would like to invite you and anyone you feel would have an interest to attend. Our intention is to raise everyone’s awareness to the pervasiveness of the disease and the plight of the caregiver, and of course, introduce our new center. There will be sandwiches and snacks as well as some material to take home. In order to make sure that we have enough on hand, I simply ask that anyone that is interested in being here to let me know.
